The tests still appear to be random to me. We need more testers to try this but the three of us narrowed things down a bit.
We can concentrate on 8.0 with TMS Mongols and see if router ports are the cause of CTD and then if successful we should test 8.1 with TMS as well.

I agree. We must first get one install working properly before trying others.
I have posted on .Org today the following.....

As the Host of the test games I have noticed that the Load Bar (the yellow bar) only gets halfway across when we CTD. That means that the players have not actually reached the battlfield. So it is something that is happening before we get to deploy the armies.

When I see the Load Bar go right across I know that the game is going to play.

Although barocca seems to think it is hardware related on his side, how come he can join other hosted games.
The fact that we three played a number of games without crashes seems to me to rule out his hardware theory.

We must have more players helping.

I doubt it's hardware or the .exe.
Any conflict in the dvd and cd .exe would surely show itself in all games, not just Mongols. The same goes for hardware.
This is driving us a bit crazy and we must try to make sure we don't start repeat testing stuff we already tried. Did we try 2 Mongol v 1 Jap or 2 Jap v 1 Mongol? I don't remember, if so it is looking like more than 2 players, when Mongols are picked is crashing the game. This makes me think that some kind of scripting is missing. Something as simple as an entry missing or not 'ticked'.

Yes, we used all the different Versions 8.0... 8.1...TMS...0715-0716 and all refused to CDT. Surprised)

These were tested using various mixes of Mongol v Mongol....Mongol V Jap....Mongol and Jap V Mongol and Jap....all same unit type....all unit types used.

So you can see we made a real attempt to cause a CDT.

After 2.1/2 hours we called it a night. (went to bed)

I shall be available from 19.00 hrs BST (GMT+1) tonight Saturday 7.00pm

We had three CTD's tonight, that was over about seven tests but barocca is sure he has identified the problem and can correct it. We were testing mongol v mongol and had one mongol v jap.(by mistake)
Testers tonight were barocca..CBR..Tosa..and ^Glyndwr^, so we were able to test 2v1 and 2v2 with the 0715 and 0716 patch.
It is felt that we should also retest the beta 8.1 We are not confident that that will always run trouble free.

^Marcus^....I said hello to you but you appreciate that as you had Version Conflict you were unable to join the testers tonight.

If you would like to join testing.....

Make a copy of a vanilla MTW/VI/Patch 2.01
Install Mod Version beta 8.0 download
and then ALL files in the mongol_religion_unit_tests.zip download.
..> they will not interfere with each other,
..> nor do they disrupt anything else.
..> the download contains 2 sets of startpos/unit and build prod files,
(the readme tells you where they need to go - they can co-exist)

0715 = MONGOLS AS PAGAN religion (and Mongol units assigned PAGAN religion)

0716 = AMAKO have Mongol Units only (and Mongol Faction Deactivated)

HIGHLY recommend NO OTHER MODS or ADD-ONS (not even the sound add-on)
Thanks to barocca

He and Tosa were doing some techie chat but from what I can gather, it is something to do with the unit and/or faction file
Barocca said it was something he could put right when I asked. Sorry I can't be more specific. Embarassed
Perhaps he will post in more detail on .org??

Mongol Testing Feedback Empty Barocca's report on test

Post by ^Glyndwr^ Sun 20 Jul 2008, 15:06

both 0715 and 0716 had problems last night,

Tosa and I are both ADSL, anyone else?
(we simply dont get lan CTD's, we got desync's on lan when the unit prod was bugged, but not CTD's)

other theories involve fn_07 being subject to the old "same FN vs same FN" bug (unlikely viking vs viking works)

even putting the fake mongols under a japanese faction control CTD'd,
PERHAPS 30 factions is the instability? (30 factions was introduced by TMS)

next phase is go back to 24 japanese clans, giving 1 clan command of mongol units,
(one of R'as patches has 24 japanese clans only)
IF that becomes stable then we lose a japanese clan and try adding the Mongol clan

tonight i will TRY, but i have had little sleep over the last three nights.
So if i can i will be there at 1800 GMT, if i miss that perhaps try again at 1900 but must leave around 2030 GMT.

will not have a new set of files to test,
BUT would like to stomp around with 8.1 for a bit.

thanks to barocca

After this last test session I am convinced that desync has been fixed and that CTD is a network problem. Only game to crash was with Barocca at 6am his time.

Hello and welcome, Barocca.
Yes I think we can say it's fixed, we played a series of games after you left and each one was successful. To be honest, it was quite something to have players from Australia, America and Europe all in the same game anyway.
Are you going to give the credit to Mrs B or are you going claim it for yourself? Wink
I'll copy/paste the Mongol stats here so we can begin balance discussions.

I don't understand what is happening with the Takiyama clan, they don't seem at all interested. As I understand, there were a group of players who regularly played SamWars on weekends and I know there were problems with beta 8, which is why they reverted to beta 5 but I thought beta 8 was first choice for its STW textures and settings.
Now that beta 8 seems fixed there are precious few players in the lobby......I thought people wanted beta 8?

Post by ^Glyndwr^ Mon 21 Jul 2008, 17:59

I have played Sam Wars fairly regularly on weekends for a number of months.
It was because of the desyncs with beta 8 that the players reverted back to beta 5, this being more stable.

There has been some difference of opinions between some players over the 'game play'.

Players have come and enjoyed the MP games others have left.

For some reason I get the feeling that some players do not want the present Sam Wars game altered. It is just a 'gut feeling' but that is what I think.

Perhaps this new setup (which would include mongols), if proved to be very stable and playable, may get more players interested in playing regularly. We can but hope.

Well I just find it a bit disappointing considering that beta 8 was the preferred game. Even with Mongols added, nothing has changed with regards to Japanese, so why the sudden lack of interest?
I have some fairly blunt conclusions of my own to be honest.

A good point to note.... all games played on one install, the Beta_8 + Beta_8.1 + TMS + Sound Add-on last weekend and not one desync or CTD.
I thought I should point this out as I do have three separate installs, two without the Sound Add-on.

This is a good sign. Very Happy

i would like to test 0715 and make sure it is 100% stable

that one puts mongols into their correct religion,
whch "should" allow me to give them the raider bonus and "no port" bonus's when they go to SP,
there are reports that those bonuses ONLY work with vikings add-on and the viking faction,
but i am certain that the bonuses are linked to slot FN_07, and thus we should be able to use them..

NOTE there will be only one SP mongol faction, but we can have several MP ones.

NOTE we will have to disable japanese factions (if my math is right) in order to enable extra MP mongol factions
i THINK, (but have not confirmed) that 30 is the maxx factions active in one campaign file at one time,
i am UNCONVINCED until i actually crash a game using more than 30, which i have not had time to do.

will try to be there this friday and saturday (your time)
