Hello Mates.
here some of the first impression after playing BI 3 times on line.
1. Quickness of moving is the same as RTW (maybe walking a littkle bit slow but running fast as RTW)
2. cavalry is not so overpower as in RTW. Armies with all cav cannot win against spears
3. Spears works now
4. Archers still make damages
5. kill rate is slower
6. Cav blog seems working not so well if u counter it by flanking and spears

I dont know nothing about faction balance. I played only with Western empire. Lost aqgainst eastern which seems to be stronger with lots of different units.
Lost with saxons 1 time cause i had too much cav.
Win with saxons 1 time cause i had more spears and my enemy many cav.

Balancing 20 factions for equal MP effectiveness is not an easy job. It is still too early but I think there are some factions who will emerge as the 'hard' factions. There are certainly some that are going to struggle. Arrows still do damage but the redzone does help to cover an army flank. This is not so good. With a flank pinned to the redzone, an army can soak up most arrows due to increased armour rating. Tactics are going to be far more a priority in BI, possibly even more so than MTW IMO.
We played a nice 2v2 last night that proved spears work well and also that poor tactics do not. Nice to see the h2h stage lasting longer again too.

Now RPS works.
Last night I could beat EE catafracts (1300 denari) with spears of WE both costing around 680 and 480 if I remember well.
So no more cav blog, no more cav spamming. I m just wondering if now in BI is ective the old disadvantage in massing fihting troops like it was in MTW.

Cav now is so expensive that you must learn to use it very well if you want them to be worth the money.
Maybe even an all infantry army (half spears and half swords) could be effective IMO.

I will experiment a new way of using this expensive and not so powerful cavalry. I wil call this experiment: "Charge only at the right time".
2 or 3 heavy cav, standing safe and protect almost all the game till the opportunity to resolve the game with a devasting charge in the right "schwer punkt" comes.

Marcus

P.S. for what I saw till now I like BI much.

I have now the opinion that BI could prove to be possibly the best TW online for team play. Tactically it seems more intense than the previous games and I am enjoying the battles. I hope that it continues this way but I am afraid that someone will discover a way to spoil the fun. On a different note, the lobby chat has become broken. Can only speak to one person at a time, this needs fixing. CA need a kick, they are shooting themseves in the foot. How can they overlook this after it was fixed in RTW?

We have had some very good and honourable opponents lately. That I like. With luck, BI will foster an honourable approach to the battles and we will see an end to spam armies.

Yes, BI is a big improvement on RTW for battle tactics and manouvres.

A great pity that the lobby chat functions have been altered.
What is the use of teams if you cannot speak to all at the same time.

Spam armies are still possible unfortunately as was witnessed with a 7 unit all cav Hun army highly upgraded.

Yes, the quality of players has been good in our last few battles. May this be the trend for the future. We can only hope. Whether or not the older 'vet' players will return will remain to be seen.

Yes Hun,
I agree with you BI could be the best of TW serie. The only great problem I see is lost connections ...
But IMO it is well balanced and the few multi battles I played were very enjoyining.
If you want to counter cav spam armies u need only at least 5-6 spears ... So a balanced army.
Some factions seems to be more powerful than others ... but it couldnt be otherwise.
As far as old veterans ... It is sad ... But I saw some new fair player on the lobby ... we have to seek look and involve them in our battles.

Against the right opponents, BI would get my vote over the other titles. Unfortunately the server is not the best but when hosting is successful the battles are very good.

How do you mean Toda?
There are still the hold position, hold formation etc commands, they are the toggle buttons on bottom right of the interface. There are additions to these as well. War Cry adds to the attack of certain units, archers have flaming arrow option, some units can form a shield wall, some can form the defensive schiltrom. Some cav still has the wedge formation option and most HA have Cantabrian Circle ability. Please expand because the control commands have changed since MTW/VI but all the old abilities are still there, even if there is a new format. Any questions you have we will try to answer

Well what a sad mess BI and RTW have become, the lobby is next to useless. I am starting to wonder whether RTW and BI should just be put down to a bad experience and draw a line under both. There seems to be no effort by anyone to sort out the lobby and I doubt that it will be fixed.

MTW II is on the way, perhaps we should focus on that.

Well I don't think that is the answer to the problems HUN.
Yes, the lobby is useless, my comment on more than one occasion and, I honestly cannot see CA even trying to sort it out.

Thank you to the idiots that spoilt that again.

M2TW is, at the least, nine months away. What would be the point in wasting time just not bothering to play?
Admitted we don't play as often as we would like to, we don't all get online on the same days or at the same times but we do manage to get some games played.

Maybe there is not always the best of opposition in the lobby but again, we have had our a**** kicked a few times by those that join our games.
It is unfortunate that there appears to be an elitist attitude in the chat lobby. Certain players will only play with certain players (you know what I mean)

As far as possible I shall continue to log on when available and play. I hope we can keep this ^Nomad Alliance^ group together. It would be a pity if it all fell apart for the sake of a few months.
Marcus, start getting your notes together when M2TW comes out. We shall need a new Academy.

Well, last night was another disaster for us. But the strange thing is, there were a few ....games in progress...so why were we having problems?
Four attempts at getting a game going only to fail. Two of those were to try to get Toda into a game.
For some reason Toda was unable to join our games and, unfortunately, the PM chat being as it is, we were unable to establish what was happening with Toda.
The last attempt I was left in *outer space* unable to do anything.
Had to shut down eventually but then lost my ISP connection for ages.
Sorry I didn't get to say NN guys.
Perhaps things will be better tonight
