Alliance with Ronin Warlords.

Post by ^Jochi Khan^ on Mon 14 Mar 2011, 23:34

I have received a PM today asking if the ^Nomads^ would honour the Ronin Warlords by forming an alliance with them for upcoming battles against others in this new Total War game.

We would still be battling as ^Nomads^ but also playing with people we have played with in other TW games.
People we know well and are honourable players. For example CanCritterRW and TomisamaRW.

I need others opinions as well.

An alliance of Nomads and Ronin.... sounds good to me Very Happy

There are warriors in that group already, which I know and have had the honour of fighting with, both side by side and at different ends of a sword. Very honourable fighters.

Alas, it appears that the 'Alliance' didn't last long.

Last night when logging on to Steam I noticed, in the Invites section, that I had been 'Kicked' from the Ronin Warlord Group.

Checked the group to make certain and saw that all of our names had been deleted.

Only RW members are now in the group.

That is a pitty.

But then again, it seems that there has never been a lot of activity in the alliance. I mean we did never meet and chat and discus strategies or coordinated attacks on the ClanCampaign map or such things (or I just missed that).

So perhaps they were juyt tidying up their members rooster.
Did you recieve any word from them or are you in contact with CanCritter or others of their leaders?
I still remember them as very honourable players.

Maybe Kazemoto can shed some light on this, since he is both Ronin and Nomad. Why the deletion without the courtesy of an explanation?
Similar action can be taken here, don't forget. You may want to look at suspending/deleting.
I see no reason to have people wander around the campsite free as you please, when no Nomad is welcome at theirs.

There has never been any plans to fight on the Clan Campaign for the obvious reasons that it is so 'bugged' and 'rigged'.
We had no discussions whatsoever between the clans regarding 'any' gameplay. Thanks to the stupid way that the regions are split up there is no way of communicating before or during games being hosted.
The foyer jocolor is non-existent, a list of names of players that are supposed to be in your region.
Other than ^Marcus^ ^Tsavong^ and myself playing 2v2 and 3v3 games we are not in contact with any others.

When you consider that only the night before, TomisamaRW joined a 2v2 game I had hosted for ^Tsavong^ and myself (which I changed to a 3v3 so he could play on our side) and nothing was mentioned about deleting us from RW Group. I had also opened a chat window and asked Tomi to invite CanCritter to join the chat and invited him to play. Even offered to change the game but Critter told Tomi he was going to play Match Made games with RaekwonRW.
So no, we did not receive any word or reason why from them.

To communicate between clans we would probably need to use steam or find them on the Org as its very difficult to do it with the game.

As for removing us from their steam group it is a shame but I can't blame them as we did not really play together much.

Thank you CanCritter for the explanation.

I have now been able to sign back into the Ronin Warlords group. Smile

In order to see the Join option on Ronin Warlords members will have to go to the Steam Community page, select Invites, then click on delete the Notice at the bottom of the page that says....You have been dropped from this group.

This then gives you the option to Join Ronin Warlords Group on their group page.

Re: Alliance with Ronin Warlords.

Post by ^Tomisama^ on Thu 08 Sep 2011, 01:26

Hi Guys!

First installment:

One of the problems with having an open Steam group is that anyone in that group can then also sign them selves onto your in-game clan. Now in the Steam group you can remove folks who you did not actually invite, or who have violated your groups code, but once they are in your in-game clan, you are stuck with them until they want to remove them selves.

Critter ask me to look into cleaning our in-game clan roster, to get rid of all of those names that did not have RW on them. The objective was to prepare the way for some possible new members, and we did not want there to be any confusion as to who was actually in the Clan and who was not.

In the process of doing that, and not knowing the difficulties of trying to get people back in the Steam Group after you had removed them, I mistakenly removed all of our Clan's friends. In addition to this, as part of the process to try to get single in-game clan officer in place, hoping that if there were only one officer that they could manage the in-game clan roster, I also removed myself from the Steam group administration. Bad idea, as now I could do nothing, being unable to reinstall myself as an administrator.

The only save I had at that point was to create another Steam group, invitation only this time, and invite all members and friends, which I did. So now the Ronin Warlords have two Steam groups, the first which I no longer have control of, is still open and attracting people we don't know. The second which represents the intention of what was to happen to the first is invitation-only, and missing only one friend who it seems to have chosen not to join with us this time (maybe don't blame them).

I am sorry for all the confusion and mess in this, but there may be one saving grace that comes out of the whole deal. It was totally unintentional, but this compendium of errors has provided a platform for an idea that I was trying to promote when this game first came out.

More to come…

With CanCritter still being an Administrator you could have asked him to reinstall you as an Admin.
That group avatar looks a better one than the new one Cool Just my opinion.

Re: Alliance with Ronin Warlords.

Post by ^Tomisama^ on Thu 08 Sep 2011, 20:32

Oh yes, I will do that (and the avatar is temporary). I have been very busy of late. All of the above will get fixed in good time. The thing is at this point I want to be real sure of what I am doing, and where I am going with what I do, as not to confuse anyone any more than has already been done.

You see here is the rub. The plans to add new members is good, but in all honesty, it is not enough! It should be clear to all that small groups have no chance to really compete on the contest map, so really unless you want to forget about this aspect of the game, there is not much sense in spending very much time working at it.

This is a shame, as it is the major intention of the game's design, and provides multiple avenues of fun for individuals, and for teams (an area for the most part yet untouched). And that brings me to the main point of posting here. I would like to propose a joint venture, a grouping of smaller Clans, where the individual Clans retain their sovereignty and identification, but all work together in a single game-clan on the contest map.

All Steam groups stay the same, maintaining their own memberships, but all members would also join together in another Steam group “and” in a game-clan known as the The Grand Alliance! The roster of this game-clan would have Nomad Alliance, Ronin Warlord, and Clan Hunter, IDs on individual player names, but the combination of our efforts on the game-map would be under the common banner The Grand Alliance game-clan.

In my misadventures exploring what can and can not be done with Steam and game-clans has shown that at least to date, when you change in-game clans, you do not lose any wins or losses accumulated. They are simply transferred to your new game-clan roster listing. I don't know if the old game-clan losses anything or the new game-clan gains anything, and really don't think either happens. But what you have goes with you in a record sense.

What is affected however is whatever has been gained in status on the game-map, as the new in-game clan will be starting at the bottom again. But there are two ways to look this; one, we will be starting a new game with Rise of the Samurai, with many changes, and maybe even a restart of the map game (I don't know anything for sure about this). And two; even if the map game were not reset, you still are not going to have a real chance to achieve victory the way things are now, so might as well team up with others to at least afford your self the chance to make the top tier at some point.

As for my self, I have had my moments but have never been a great player, in fact barely fair most of the time. A lot of this is due to my so much of my time spent keeping the Clan Wars Competition running over the past eight years. However, the current contest is the last, and I will be closing the CWC. I will then be free to practice, play, and fight with all of my available time, which I hope will bring me up to a respectable player level relatively soon.

I hope that there will be a prime motivation to work on this for myself, and for all of you in the pursuit of your game happiness. I hope that in that direction we can set and maintain a goal together, that will add extra emphasis to all that we do, keeping us all on track and working for a truly achievable end.

The actual achievement of course is secondary to the motivation, but the real possibility to achieve it must be there, in order to receive that motivation, and the rewards that only come when we extend our selves.

Salute!

The one thing to remember is that you can only belong to one game-clan.
It is correct that your wins/losses totals go with you when you move to another game-clan but I don't think any regions that you have won for your present game-clan would be transferred with you (you would be fighting under a different clan banner/colour code). The round coloured dot allocated to your game-clan.

In my case there could be a problem.

I have already set up the ^Nomad Alliance^ game-clan, currently 11 members and am classed/named as the Clan Leader of this clan.
Although players have joined it has not been used as a dedicated Clan Competition clan.

If I decided to leave this game-clan to join another, what would happen to this game-clan?
Would it still exist as a game-clan? Would another player who has joined it take over as Clan Leader?
I have not read anything anywhere to explain this.

I shall have to give this a lot of serious thought before making any decision.

Yes a lot of thought and questions are required; this is not an overnight decision.

Unfortunately there is almost no information available, and worse that that, the game will certainly change a bit with the new expansion.

All I can tell you is as I have experienced so far, and that is that you can leave and rejoin your game-clan very easily, and even as leader as I was of our game-clan. The whole leader thing in actual practice on the map, is somewhat questionable. I am now first officer of our second Steam group as I was in the first, and still can not move the marker on the map. It seemed to work once or twice but not anymore. So the value of being the leader of a game-clan is not necessarily truly supported in the game.

Another important thought on the matter is that if this is to be truly as successful as envisioned, all official Nomads would be coming with you, as all Ronin would also be coming with me, an hopefully al Hunters with George. Theoretically all of the “original" game-clans would be left as ghost-clan shells, with only non-clan name players left (not your real members anyway). The game-clan will still be there and available for reentry, because the Steam group is never changed.

I can already tell that this is going to be difficult to sell. Just keep it in mind for a bit. And when the Rise of the Samurai comes out, and you are looking at the map contest, and comparing your numbers to say of Aggony (currently 43 members), and wondering if there is any point to playing match-made games, maybe then it will be time to make plans Wink

Interesting. I guess more thinking is needed about this, though.

One thing to find out would be : What happens to the clan tokens?
I currently have 7 clan tokens, which I have not yet spent on anything yet. Somewhere I have heared, that you loose your clan tokens, when you change your clan (that's the point of having clan tokens, to stop player from changing clans whilly nilly with opportunistic motives).

But what will happen if I spend my clan tokens on upgrades from my veterans? Will those spent clan tokens also be lost?

I don’t think that if you have not spent any clan tokens that you will lose any. I believe the loss thing has to do with clan tokens spent on clan specialty clan skills. As each game clan has a one of the four specialties, providing their members with veteran skills specific to that clan specialty. It may be that changing clans would cause you to loose those tokens already spent on a different game clan’s specialty, as it would not be transferable. We will have to wait and see how the Rise expansion deals with this.

This brings up another problem with my proposal though. As it is now all members of a game clan are locked into the same specialty (bow, cavalry, sword, or spear). This probably makes little difference at lower levels, but eventually could make the difference between loss and victory at the highest levels. The more members you have multiplies the advantages or disadvantages of a specific specialty. It is almost a self limiting feature.

On the other hand it encourages clan alliances for team games (with partners from different game clans), where different specialties can work together on the battlefield for the advantage of all. The points for the win may be less than if all were adding their win points under the same banner. But their chances of winning may be increased by having a balanced strength team insuring a victory.

All very complicated isn’t it Smile

Final note on lessons learned in changing game clans.

As it is now, changing in game clans does not change your specilization, so you can end up in a different place on the map than the rest of your game clan. This of course ruins coordinated province conquest, as you can not get to the region of focus, to be of any help to your group.

The only way to beat this is to reset your avatar, which can be very costly. In other words until they work on this a bit, don't!
