The dragon has a special significance to me because of the legend of the Mordiford, and my name being Morford. I know that Mordiford is not exactly in Wales, but close enough that we might be cousins tongue

Unfortunately, the emblem of Wales is no more than a combination of two battle standards adopted by Henry Tudor (Henry VII) Nevertheless, it has left us with arguably the best national flag (the Welsh flag seriously kicks ass) of all.
In traditional nationalist strongholds of mid, north and west Wales, either the standard of Owain Glyndwr (more correctly Glyndyfrdwr) or the flag of Saint David (Dewi Sant) are flown. The rampant lions of Glyndwr are readily recognisable, however the yellow cross on black background of Dewi Sant is perhaps less well known but it forms the background of the Cardiff city football club badge, behind the bluebird.

The Owain Glyndwr flag that was flying from the flagpole at the Storey Arms, a former Youth Hostel, in the Brecon Beacons.

It is flown to commemorate Owain Glyndwr Day, the 16th September each year.

One is also flown at Cardiff Castle.

The flag of Dewi Sant (St David), although it is not recognised as the flag of Wales.

The Celtic Cross version of the flag.

Isn't this a wyvern? Wye as being from the Wye Valley where the Wye and Lugg rivers come together, and the legend of the Mordiford dragon comes from? A bit north of you, and near Hereford?

The wyvern is a creature of legend, and a cousin to the dragon. Wyverns are winged, serpent-like creatures. Unlike dragons, wyverns have only two legs, a barbed tail, and cannot breathe fire. Wyverns are smaller than dragons.

The wyvern appears in some western folklore as a malign and violent predator with a fierce head, bat wings, and a tail. It is said to breathe poison. Other accounts tell that the wyvern's most deadly weapon is its poisonous tail stinger. The wyvern has the head of a serpent and the talons of an eagle.

Legend has it that Mordiford was once terrorised by a dragon that lived in Haugh Wood and came down to drink from the waters of the River Lugg. Ancient tales tell of the Mordiford Wyvern taking sheep and cattle and even developing a taste for the locals. The Wyevern is often associated with Herefordshire and Worcestershire and is sometimes used in Heraldic Coats of Arms and the name has even been adopted by the local radio station.

Happy Owain Glyndwr day cheers
