The Truth about Empire

Post  ^Kazemoto^ on Thu 05 Mar 2009, 03:16

First topic message reminder :

We’re friends, so I got to tell you the truth right?

Well, the truth in my humble opinion is that Empire Total War looks to be pretty much the best damn game that Creative Assembly has come out with yet!

It is awesome, incredible, and fabulous, worth every penny you can manage to squeeze out to get the best machine you can, with the best graphics you can manage.

Just my personal opinion mind you, but playing this game in the Total War mode, it handles very much like MTW/VI, but with the very best graphics you have ever seen.

I’m sure there are still some bugs, I didn’t see any, but there always are some. But even if there are, I have to say that in all respects, including the automatic match finder (oh yes this works great), Empire is undoubtedly head and shoulders above any game I have ever played in my whole life.

Yup, that’s what I said Wink

There was a good and valid reason that I did not buy this game. Simply put, I do not trust CA to make a decent MP offering. Just suppose for a moment that this was an ancient era like the five dynasties, very much my kind of thing, I still would have waited to hear feedback and this kind of feedback would bring the same result. No purchase.

I've read the pros and the cons and I don't see what's supposed to be good about this game. If you just want to go online and you don't give a monkey's who you play then....but has Total War ever been that kind of game?

Lavos has posted a suggestion on the org that may be of some help to you. He says that if you join loads of groups you are able to see their hosted games regardless of the server. This could be one way join games containing known, trustworthy opponents.

I still think a dedicated lobby is better than this.

Not quite as straight forward as it sounds.
You still have to click on each group in turn to see who is online/ingame and that doesn't mean to say they are in a game.
I'll explain it better when I see you.

I take it you and Marcus are still unable to link up?

I haven't been able to catch Marcus online for a few weeks now. We seem to be logging on at different times.

I have managed to have a few good 4v4 games these last few nights. :516668:

The plus side....no lag. cheers

Player names are now shown on the unit tags when mouse-over which is what we had in previous tw games.
The minus side...when you watch the replay of a saved game the players name is no longer visible. So you have to try and remember who took which faction. This part of the game is a real mess. Mad

CA still have a lot to correct to make this game a really good game. IMHO

I'm glad you've finally got somewhere. Judging by the apparent lack of activity on .org I can only draw two conclusions, either the org is dead or ETW MP has already peaked. The former, from MP perspective, has been true for years.

Another three good 4v4 games played again.

Now I am meeting up with people I know and starting to enjoy our battles.

Starting to feel more like the old days but a BIG pity about the lack of a proper Foyer/Lobby that enables you to see all who are online and to chat with your mates.

With a group of vets who find the gameplay of ETW to their liking, it's such a shame a proper lobby doesn't exist. At least you are finding these players online now.

Two different evenings two different games...

One game with Tomisama as ally..game started with snow falling (winter). After only a short time deploying...desync, snow started going back up to the sky instead of falling...LOL

One game with Marcus as ally..game played to the point of enemy armies routed...expecting the victory screen but got a...desync.

No reason given in either game so what is happening?

Probably they quit and desynced the game. Who hosted that game?

In the snow game, the host simply did not know what he was doing, and I am pretty sure did not have the equipment or connection, and the game stalled.

We were grasping at straws joining games with people we didnt know (or thought we knew), and when you do that anything can happen bom

We need to get our team together and play against some folks we know.

The best times are yet to come my_advice

I was the host but we didn't see the usual...xxxx player has left the game...message.

That was my impression too.

Yes but the different time zones make it difficult during the week days. Our evening is your early afternoon. Sad

One answer would be to arrange to meet up on weekends if possible. Idea
