Steam Servers

Post  ^Glyndwr^ on Sun 22 Mar 2009, 01:10

I am posting a link to a post on .org by Tomisama that may explain how to meet each other in the same online battle list.

http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=2169289&postcount=10

Hope this helps. Wink

Brilliant!!! Tonight I am unable to connect to Steam Servers. Evil or Very Mad

The error message I keep getting....Steam is unable to connect to the Servers. Rolling Eyes

This is worse than Gamespy. Gah!! Never had any problems connecting with them.

I said it was far too early for people to rave over. From reading both SP and MP reports I don't see anything different to previous titles .... bugs, CTD, imbalance, lag and now connection errors. Sounds like another taste of chicken.

Now Steam has auto updated my game (the patch) I am in the same boat as others who have posted on .org. Marcus and Tomisama cannot join my hosted games or me join theirs. Rolling Eyes
But strangly enough Eusabius86 can join and he is in the USA the same as Tomisama.

I know this is totally frustrating.

But number one, it is not the game. I played 4v4s online all day Sunday with no problems.

I had 40 Clan Teams starting their Clan Wars matches this weekend, with no report of problems.

Can host a multiplayer game, you vs. CPU players?

Try creating your own 4v4 with CPU mates and opponents.

Up date:...Today I tried as you suggested.

I hosted a 4 v 4 with 7 AI players.
The game ran ok but a bit laggy. Very Happy

Hmmmm...seems it was a firewall problem.

I must now try to host and join other MP games to be certain it is working.

Than is exactly what I get, a bit laggy (all the CPUs cause the load).

That means your computer is fine.

The game is fine, your computer is fine.

Your firewall should be "up". If you have a router involved, it should "not" have DMZ on.

There should not be any need to do anything special to play and host these games.

Now there may be exceptions with particular equipment, but my fire wall is up and I have no special settings engaged on my router (which I always use to have, to be able to host).

What do you have in the way of routers, modems, and internet service?

Because thats where the problem lies.

This only proves the pc and game run ok. No proof that anyone was able to join game (as in MP). Just me and 7 AI players playing a multi player game on my pc with my connection.
This has previously been proven by playing single player games.

Again, proven when Marcus and I were able to play two MP games with no problems with linking up together.
It is only since the game auto updated (patched) that I have had this not being able to join or host a game.

There has been absolutely no change to my system (router and/or ISP) since the time we were able to play MP so I fail to see how...Because thats where the problem lies

I am using... BT Hub router..ethernet hard wired connection..BT Broadband (8MB).
Firewalls are set to allow games and necessary connections (trusted zones), other pc's can 'see' my pc.
More than enough to connect and run my games.
Perhaps I should consider uninstalling McAfee and use ZoneAlarm. Idea Idea

Strangely enough, Marcus can host games and other players can see and join them. I saw the game but couldn't join. Rolling Eyes
Marcus even 'invited' me to try to stop others joining so quickly.

Re: Steam Servers

I tired but I will try to explain the best I can.

I am an engineer, and work with complex computer systems and programs all the time for a living.

Playing 4v4 with CPU teams proves your computer is more than capable of handling the program, that’s all.

My statement was that the Game is Fine, and your Computer is Fine.

The only thing left is the connection to the other players.

And just because you didn’t change anything, does not mean that something has not changed.

And that the change may or may not have anything to do with the patch, the timing may simply be coincidental.

I was trying to take you through a step by step evaluation of the system, exploring and eliminating one thing at a time.

I understand and appreciate the time and help that you have offered. i was not being 'critical' with my replies. Sometimes the typed words do not come across as the spoken word would. No offence is meant on my part.

I will post more details when I return. Must dash.

Read your reply posted as I was typing. Smile
