Steam Servers

Post  ^Glyndwr^ on Sun 22 Mar 2009, 01:10

First topic message reminder :

I am posting a link to a post on .org by Tomisama that may explain how to meet each other in the same online battle list.

http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=2169289&postcount=10

Hope this helps. Wink

Back..... Wink

Thanks for the link . Yes I have been there too.

I am putting my problem down to a Firewall issue (with McAfee).

McAfee is the program pre-installed on this pc. For some unknown reason when I select... Open Security Centre...nothing happens. Even the other options have the same effect.
It is as if McAfee is not working. Shocked

I was going to uninstall it and install ZoneAlarm in its place.
Cannot uninstall it.
No uninstall option in the program and in Control Panel>Add/Remove program I get a message...program appears to be uninstalled or moved.

When I try to install ZoneAlarm it gives me a message that McAfee is already installed and there would be conflicts between the two and to uninstall it first then closes ZA install window.

So, I cannot install ZA, cannot uninstall McAfee and cannot alter Firewall settings in McAfee. Evil or Very Mad

I will contact McAfee tech support and see what they come up with. Watch this space. gathering

Update......
I was given a Virtual Tech Support program to download and install.

Ran the program and it found 35 missing/corrupted files.
They could not all be replaced/repaired.

Now successfully uninstalled McAfee. Smile

ZoneAlarm installed and configured. Just need to run a test with someone online in MP.

Let us hope this is the end of my Host/Join games problem. drunken

Logged on to the game, selected Quick Land Battle, Steam found me an opponent. A siege No No . Played it and won so was pleased with joining a land battle. Will hopefully test a connection later this evening with Marcus.

Where to go from here??????

We still can't join each others games whoever hosts.

Port settings and firewalls have been double checked.

Update.....

As a further test, selected Quick Land Battle and played two games with players I had never heard of.
Connected first time each time. So my connections for the game must be ok.
Why does Steam always seem to pick a Siege for this option. Rolling Eyes

Tonight I successfully joined a 2 v 2 MP game against ArmaEtLorica clan members. A close defeat but my ally had routed and left the game. Don't remember or know who he was.
Failed to join two other games earlier though. Sad

Still in the same position...Marcus and I are still unable to join each others hosted games.

This means we are unable to play as team mates. Evil or Very Mad

I do not intend playing only Quick Battles just for the sake of playing this game online.
The battles that I have been able to join, four to date, just doesn't warrant the time spent sitting at the pc every evening hoping for a game connection.

From the technical aspect.......today I spent one and a half hours with BT Tech Support using Remote Assistance and they could find no reason why I am unable to link up with others. They carried out various checks.
All my pc and router settings are judged as being correct for what I want to do.

Latest update.......

I am hoping my problems are solved.

Tonight I was able to join a 4v4 MP game on the UK server with players I know, at least two of them. One from USA and one from Canada.

Had another update downloaded and installed. Now on V1.2.

Two good things.......we now have the players names on the faction, when you mouse-over the units and the ingame chat has different colours. Allie/Enemy.

Don't know how many more changes there are yet, still got to play the game a bit more often.

Still having the same hassle.

It appears I can only join random mp games.
Have failed to join friends games even when invited by them. Get a message something like ...Server not responding.

Last night I only managed to play ONE game out of SEVEN ATTEMPTS and that was with players I don't even know.
It is no fun just clicking on any old game and hoping for the best.

But the players name on the unit cards do not show in the replays. So you don't know who was playing with which faction in the replay. Shocked

Is there any point in carrying on trying to get a few games?

It seems I am doomed to be a non regular player. Rolling Eyes

Marcus and I still cannot join each others game.

Latest update....

The combinations...
Marcus cannot join my hosted game..Tomi cannot join my hosted game..I cannot join Marcus' hosted game..I cannot join Tomi's hosted game.

These combinations were with firewalls turned right off. Not a clever way to connect to the internet I know.
The firewalls being...Windows..ZoneAlarm and BT Hub (the Router).

But, Tomi and Marcus can join each others hosted games.

I can join CanCritter's hosted game..I can join raekwon's hosted game. Why!!!!! Whats the difference!!!!!

I didn't get time to play ETW Saturday (a busy day for me) so we didn't get a chance to test.
