Here are the minimum specs for running Empire: Total War:

2.4Ghz single core processor
256MB Gfx card (DX9 compatible)
1GB RAM for XP... 2GB if using Vista.

Best Buy posted the following on their sales page.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

CPU Speed: 3GHz
CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4 (Intel Core Duo Core Recommended)

Display: GeForce 5 Series with Shader Model 2 Support and 128MB Graphics Memory
Memory (RAM): 1GB
Operating System Compatibility: Windows XP/Vista, Not Mac Compatible

Must be the recomended specs.

I am guessing the 2.4 to 3GHz is the tough part?

This is what I read from that link you gave. But, this is the minimum requirements.

My main problem is the CPU speed. What I have now is...

AMD Athlon
1.9 GHz
Win XP SP3
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA XFX 7600 GT 256MB graphics with Shader Model 2
Internet Broadband connection.

Interesting, as I copied and pasted the information yesterday directly confused

Note the change from SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS to Minimum PC System Requirements, maybe changed to put their “best foot” (lowest spec) forward.

Or it is possible I got the wrong page somehow, though I find it hard to believe. I’m old but not that old (I hope not anyway).

For whatever reason, that is much more doable. Still investigating Basketball

I know, depends on socket and chip set support.

But I wanted to tell you that I have succesfully done an upgrade before to extend the life of a computer.

It was easy and worked great!
